Under the Provisions of the act you may qualify for:

• A Reduction of interest rates on mortgage payments.
• A Reduction of the interest rate on credit card debt to 6%.
• Protection from eviction if your rent is less than $1,200 per month                            • Delay of all civil court actions like foreclosure, divorce and collections proceedings.

How Do I Take Advantage of this as I Have Been Called Up?

It is up to you to contact your creditors and you should do it in writing and on the phone. Under the Act, the interest rate on your mortgage, car loan and credit cards cannot be more than 6% for the time you are on active duty.You should include documentation showing your active status and documentation of the difference between civilian and duty pay.

With regard to eviction, the Act will not let your family stay rent free but can buy you a three month period of breathing room to get things straight without having to worry about your spouse and children being put out. The lease must be for $1,200.00 or less per month for the Act to apply. 

Finally, under the Act, the soldier can request a stay of any civil court case against them including divorce, foreclosure and bankruptcy proceedings.
